PRACTICAL LIFE LEARNING CARDS
"Help me to help myself!" This is a child's chief plea in the first few years of his/her life. Young children yearn and strive for independence. They want to do things on their own - putting on shoes, brushing teeth, or sweeping the floor. It is time-consuming, yes, to wait for a child to do things independently, but any parent can recount the triumphant moments when a child succeeded in doing something for the first time. Their faces beamed, and they felt like they suddenly grew bigger and taller. Those victorious moments help children build confidence in their ability to care for themselves and contribute to this world.
The Montessori Method encourages and guides children to strive for independence. Through repeating everyday activities such as pouring, wiping, sweeping, practicing grace and courtesy, children exercise their little fingers, develop coordination, practice concentration, and master the skills to care for themselves and the environment. We hope you enjoy those activities at home, and we will continue to create more Montessori and Montessori-inspired Practical Life Learning Cards to enrich your family life.
